Australia

Wine & friends are a great blend

We just got back from Australia.

It was amazing to make this trip over recent weeks, especially when you consider how long haul travel has looked for so long.

It all started with a wedding invitation. It’s always wonderful to be invited to a wedding. And it’s one of the best reasons to travel.

The last one was in New York, a gathering of friends at a house in The Hamptons. The happy couple were friends from International schools, and like us, with friends and family all over the world. And so it was decided, to all meet in New York.

This time the ‘hens’ celebration was a full day in the beautiful Barossa Valley. PKP and I had explored many wine estates in Barossa on another trip, exactly ten years ago. I was excited to go back,  to sample more spicy Shiraz.

I quaffed without him, while he was at the ‘ bucks’ event in Adelaide Hills.

It’s the second time to travel as far as Australia to attend a friend’s wedding. It took place at the National Wine Centre in Adelaide, on a perfect winter’s day, with a bright blue sky and a beautiful bride. We all celebrated the union of this couple; two travellers who have lived in multiple countries before they met in Malaysia, moved together to Germany and relocated back to Australia.

It was a very special day. And it’s a special memory, when a wedding becomes an occasion that reunites friends. Guests had travelled from all over Australia, as well as Taipei, Rome and Rio.

Some of our closest friends are far away. It is what is. Over these last weeks we’ve been reminded of the importance of friendship. Re-connecting with people who get us more than most is such a tonic. There was music, laughter and a lot wine.

Cheers to all of you. You made the journey so worthwhile.

Have you travelled for a special occasion recently?
